Shorelines and Sandcastles is a ship fanzine devoted to the romantic relationship between Riku and Kairi from the Kingdom Hearts series.
Together, they have grown up alongside the shoreline, building themselves up like the beautiful sandcastles they made as children. Just as the waters pulled them apart, it will always continue to bring them back together;
She will always find him, and he will always be found, and he will always find her, and she will always be found.The focus of this fanzine is how Riku and Kairi continue to inspire each other, find each other’s hearts no matter how far apart, and fill those hearts with the unquestionable bond they share.

Is this Zine still in operation?
We have officially closed both our applications and store. Thanks so much for your incredible support, however it is you participated.Will there be another volume of the zine?
TBDIs this a for-profit or charity zine?
Shorelines and Sandcastles is a for-profit zine, due both to a bias towards for-profit in our initial interest check, as well as our desire to assist our contributors through the financial hardship caused by current world affairs.How many contributors are you accepting?
We accepted 15 artists, ~4 writers. Artists can also apply as merch artists.What are the requirements to apply as a contributor?
Artists could apply using a link to a portfolio, while writers could apply with individual links. You can see the zine's previous app specs below:
Please make sure your application pieces are easy to find and are not behind locked accounts/viewing limitations. All submitted pieces should be finished (no sketches) and in the style of what you plan on submitting to the finished zine. Artists should submit 3-5+ pieces with at least one piece including Riku and one piece including Kairi (or the two of them together in one piece), and writers should submit 3+ works with at least one piece depicting Riku and Kairi together.

It is preferred, but we understand this may not be possible for some. We are willing to work with you if this is the case.Is it possible to apply for multiple contributor types?
Yes you may, but you will only be accepted as one.What are the content specifics (page size, word length, etc.) for the zine?
Our content specs can be found here!What will the compensation for the zine contributors be?
Contributors will be compensated with a physical and digital copy of the zine, and any merch can be removed from contributor pay at manufacturer cost. Any additional profits will be distributed evenly among contributors via PayPal.Is there an over-all theme we should shoot for when creating our application?
There is no specific theme aside from loving RiKai!Can we submit NSFW pieces?
No nsfw is allowed. Minor blood/injuries are allowed, but the zine will remain PG-13.Will AUs (Alternate Universes) be allowed?
AUs and appropriate headcanons are welcomed, so long as Riku and Kairi are recognizable.Are other characters allowed?
Other characters are permitted, so long as the central focus of your piece are Riku and Kairi, and their relationship to each other. Other ships are not encouraged for the content of your piece.Can I submit older work as my zine piece?
No, all work submitted must be newly created for the zine.Does my application have to include KH/Riku and Kairi related pieces?
Pieces that include characters from the Kingdom Hearts series, and specifically include Riku and Kairi, are not required, but highly encouraged! This will give us a good idea of how you portray the characters.contact us!
